January 12th 2011 was a day Clonmel Town were steeped in sadness following the news of the death of our President Liam Delahunty. Liam was one of the founding fathers of Clonmel Town back in 1963. Liam led a small group of his people who had one goal in mind. His courage and commitment to develop a football club for the people of Clonmel were the foundations that were laid and since then Clonmel Town has become one of the most well-known Junior clubs in Ireland. Liam will go down in Club Folklore and will never be forgotten. Liam also served as an administrator for the TSDL, and his work for the League did not go unnoticed and was set in stone as the Premier Division trophy was proudly named the Liam Delahunty Cup, a trophy that his beloved Clonmel Town have won 16 times. Following the clubs last win on the acceptance speech Captain Raymie Condon remarked that Liam who had passed away not so long before that had definitely cleared a couple of headers off the line after we had beaten St Michaels in Cooke Park against all odds. Well done Liam. May he Rest in Peace.
